ACOS conducts an annual outreach to prisoners in correctional facilties throughout the Michigan area. This outreach is on an annual basis, 3-4 times per year or more, to encourage and uplift those who are incarcerated. Prisoners are given a motivational speech and have the opportunity to enjoy musical entertainment from Detroit's local recording artist, Sounds of Imani & other guests who volunteer their time.
Our founders, Gerald & Carol Ervin, were introduced to Operation Starting Line, a prison outreach founded by Chuck Colson, through local Michigan collaborators during a special 2003 Michigan Campaign outreach. From this special event, Gerald & Carol, along with the music outreach team, were specifically requested to return by both prisoners and program coordinators alike. Since that time, Acclaim Community Outreach has had the opportunity to encourage prisoners at Deerfield Correctional Facility in Ionia, MI; as well as Cooper Street Correctional Facility in Jackson, MI. Prior to Operation Starting Line, Gerald & Carol Ervin have also worked diligently through collaboration with other local churches to present outreach to prisoners at the Dickerson Correctional Facility here in Detroit, Michigan.
The hearts of our founders and the Board of Directors of Acclaim Community Outreach is to carry a positive, uplifting message to those who are most forgotten. Their desire is to instill a sense of self-worth in the hearts of many & change lives in the "spirit of excellence". While photos of prisoners are not allowed at this time, we have included some photos of the prison outreach team.
